ten months of photo !

this year in photography with mrs. hahn i have learned a lot. most importantly to show unique voice in everything that you do. we have had a lot of photo assignments and they have all differed quite a bit. the nature photo shoot helped me focus on the small detail and show more than what you immediately think of. the portrait assignment showed me how to work with people and helped me realize the importance of lighting and setting as well as the importance of photography elements.

the color photoshoot (i had yellow) helped me focus on things that i would not have normally have seen. this game me a good theme for this photoshoot. i really liked the different use of color because i wouldn't have chosen yellow on my own, but the pictures ended up being really awesome. i also learned a lot from the panorama assignment. it gave me a new perspective on my surroundings and all the different ways of composing photos as well as collages.

the nature photo shoot was overall really good, but one self criticism i have is that i should have stuck with one common theme during this assignment. i chose mostly the elements of don't center, rule of thirds, and colors with this photoshoot. though these photos were good, it would have improved my portfolio if i would have used more elements like more detail and varied settings. the portrait assignment was probably my favorite all year. i loved taking pictures of other people and capturing their voice through my photos, as well as capturing my own through my self portraits. i think that  i did a very good job of editing these photos to fit the voice i wanted to portray with all the different people and settings. regardless of the assignment, my voice through the whole year developed, but i think that it was and is detail. i really love capturing the details of people, plants, settings, and even just getting close and looking at what wouldn't be the first thing to see. these elements of my voice defiantly helped my photos get better and it showed who i am as an artist more effectively.

as an artist it is only right to reflect on your won work. my work in photography this year was for the most part, pretty quality. a few things i could have done better are: had more variety in what i took photos of, the setting in which i took the photos, having a solid theme for all my pictures, difference in lighting and elements used. i think that my level of motivation to do the different photoshoots varied and this influenced the quality of each separate assignment. regardless of the assignment, all of the pictures i took and the settings i was in this year in photography helped develop my voice as an artist.

take a HIKE!

for the nature photo shoot, i took photos of close up plants using rule of thirds and focusing on the subject, then again on the background. i went to whit river park with my class. i used the rules of composition to help my photos by adding other complimenting colors to the photos composition. using rule of thirds helped as well. i chose water, stems, flowers and wood as my subjects for my photos. i incorporated my voice by the subjects i chose to photograph, and how i presented them. this assignment helped me see my world closer and more detailed. my strengths were the subjects were good, but i could have carried them a little more. i would have gone to more places and tried to see things differently.

portraiture

for this assignment i took photos of other people and set up the scene by having them outside and by nature. i used rule of thirds to help my composition. i took photos outside because the lighting was great and it helped my pictures. i chose other people and nature to take pictures of because i liked the scene it created having the people in cloudy weather. i also incorporated humor because i think that is a big part of myself and the friendship with the people i took pictures of. this assignment helped me see my world differently by helping me notice good dramatic scenes and take pictures of people without them being candid. my strengths in this assignment were setting up the scene and using my voice as an artist. my weaknesses were not having enough variety and not using enough originality in my photos. i would have gone to multiple places to take these pictures instead of just one place.

art in the park

i took pictures of nature and i used pictures that i had taken in the past for this art in the park assignment. i used mostly colorful plants and scenes that were focused on one thing and had blurred out backgrounds. I went around my town and outside so that i could find many different things to make the photos differ from one to the next. i used the rules of composition to focus on the subject of the photo and make the pictures more interesting.  i chose nature as my subject because the subject of my class photoshoot was art in the park for the local parks. i used my voice as an artist by taking photos of things that i like or that were around where i live (where i am from). this assignment furthered my attention to detail.  my strengths in this assignment were the different things that i included in my subject matter. if i could change anything i would have added more subjects to photograph.

noun post

for my noun assignment in photography i picked the noun topic intricately beautiful. i chose this topic and the first thing that i thought of was the sky. i love looking at the sky and all the small details in the sunset that makes it so beautiful. i took pictures when it was the late evening when the sky was very bright and detailed. i went outside of my house or when i was driving and took photos of places that showed the sky's beauty. i used the rules of composition to make the photos unique and make them interesting to look at. i chose to focus on one thing in the setting and then work from there to get a good horizon shot. i incorporated my voice as an artist by showing subject matter that i liked and by showing places that were significant to me. this assignment helped me seem world differently by showing me things that i see everyday in a new perspective of beauty. i think that i could have made my subject differ a little more in this assignment to make it stronger. i would have gone to different places to make this assignment better.

juxtaposition reflection

For my juxtaposition photoshoot i took photos of things in my life or that i had around my house. I set up my scene using distance and spacing between the subjects that i was showing the juxtaposition between. I used the rules of composition by centering and lighting and focusing on the subjects. I used lighting as another element to show the contrast in my subjects. I chose technology vs. natural and then girly vs. sporty. i used my voice as an artist because these are both subjects that have a huge role in my life. this assignment showed me that everyday things can really have juxtaposition in them. my strengths in this assignment were the changes in topics and showing what my subjects were. my weaknesses were not being clear on the difference in my topics and the actual photoshoot setting.

Photography Parody

For my parody photography assignment i chose to replicate the national geographic photographer Jose Azel. He mostly photographs nature and realistic scenes. I chose this artist because i like nature photography a lot. I love to capture things the way they were intended to be seen. This photo above is one that i took, trying to replicate his winter photos. I really like this photo and the way that is focuses on the details on the plant. I focused more on details in my photos when Jose Azel focuses more on the big picture. I tried to use the rules of composition of avoiding distractions and depth of field in most of my photos. I think that i could next time incorporate more setting and different materials and people into my photos. I really admire Jose Azel's work and his work is very inspiring for me.
